The UCLA Department of Music is pleased to announce the appointments of Thomas Hooten and Jennifer Marotta as lecturers in trumpet during the 2016 winter and spring quarters, while Professor Jens Lindemann is on sabbatical. Hooten and Marotta will teach undergraduate and graduate trumpet majors, lead a weekly studio class, and coach the brass ensemble.

One of the most exciting orchestral musicians of his generation, Thomas Hooten has been principal trumpet with the Los Angeles Philharmonic since 2012. He previously served as principal trumpet with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, assistant principal trumpet of the Indianapolis Symphony, and trumpet/cornet in “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band. Hooten has taught at the Aspen Music Festival and Kennesaw State University and currently serves on the faculty at San Francisco Conservatory of Music. He holds degrees from the University of South Florida and Rice University.

Jennifer Marotta maintains an active freelance career, performing frequently with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, LA Opera, Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, and Los Angeles Master Chorale. She is a member of the Grand Teton Music Festival and the Music of the Baroque Ensemble in Chicago and served in “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band from 2001–05. An accomplished teacher, Marotta was assistant professor of trumpet at Kennesaw State University from 2006–12 and artist-in-residence at Emory University from 2006–10. She holds degrees from Northwestern University and DePaul University.
