Professor Movses Pogossian has shared with us some great news. A string chamber group from UCLA, along with UCLA mezzo-soprano Danielle Bayne, will be traveling to Armenia this week to take part in a workshop and performances. Here is what he says:

“Mezzo soprano Danielle Bayne and VEM String Quartet (all of them graduate students at UCLA’s Herb Alpert School of Music) are members of a unique program of Armenian Music at UCLA. They will be performing varied repertoire of Armenian classical music: Komitas, Mansurian, Mirzoian, Chtchyan, Hovhannes, Avanesov, in an upcoming trip to Armenia, where they will perform in a formal concert of Armenian Chamber Music at the prestigious Komitas Chamber Music Hall, as well as take part in an inaugural Workshop ?The Interface between Music and Nationalism,” organized jointly by Prof. Peter Cowe (Narekatsi Chair of Armenian Studies at UCLA) and the Armenian University of Armenia (AUA). The student musicians have been coached by Vatsche Barsoumian (President, Lark Musical Society) and Movses Pogossian (Professor of Violin, UCLA). The recent and upcoming performances by these musicians include performances at Zipper Hall, Hammer Museum, LACMA?s Bing Theater, Schoenberg Hall, and a concert at Colorado College on April 24th, in commemoration of the Armenian Genocide Anniversary.
