Joshua Fishbein Headshot Low Res

We heard from Josh Fishbein today that he has won the Delaware Valley Chorale’s 2013 Competition for Young Choral Composers. Josh is a Ph.D. student in composition who has already won several prestigious composition prizes.

He says:

“I was recently informed that my composition, Adon Olam for SATB Chorus and Piano, has been selected as the winner of the Delaware Valley Chorale’s 2013 Competition for Young Choral Composers.

The panel which selected my composition made the following comments:

“This is a well-crafted composition with rich textures and beautiful vocal lines. It includes interesting paired imitative figures. It is lovely how one vocal line sometimes seems to rise out of another vocal line. The composition has a very professional presentation which includes a pronunciation guide for the Hebrew transliteration and a poetic translation into English. The English translation also appears in parentheses above the Hebrew text throughout the score.”

For this competition, the prize includes a $500 cash award and an archival recording of my composition, which will be performed by the Delaware Valley Chorale during the 2013-2014 concert season.”

Congratulations, Josh!
