The Tragedy of Carmen

The Tragedy of Carmen is an intense, 80 minute
distillation of Bizet's Carmen, crafted by theatrical
genius Peter Brook and his collaborators Jean-
Claude Carrière and Marius Constant.  The
English translation is by Sheldon Harnick.  The
action focuses on the four protagonists, with a
chamber orchestra providing a varied
soundscape.   A worldwide phenomenon since
its premiere in the 1980s, The Tragedy of
Carmen
comes to UCLA for eight performances
at The Little Theater from May 27 to June 4.
The production is a collaboration between Opera
UCLA and the UCLA Department of Theater.
