The launch, on May 3, 2010, of a newly designed website marks a milestone in the history of the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music. The new website creates a visual, online image of the School’s commitment to the teaching of the universe of music and of our desire to create a unity of purpose that serves the educational needs of our three diverse departments.
The School was born by aligning three outstanding but autonomous departments: Ethnomusicology, Music, and Musicology. Each contributes in its unique way to the vision and mission of the School.: excellence in performance, composition, teaching, and scholarship; a commitment to teaching about all the music in the universe; and a commitment to interact with and serve the campus community and the local, national, and international communities beyond the campus.
Creating a sense of unity among these diverse departments has been one of goals since the founding of the School in November of 2007. This website is one step along that path. Its design highlights that unity while representing the uniqueness of each department.
The website is also home to information about our School and its Departments, from the nature of our programs, to how to apply for admission, to the program requirements once you are here, to the events being sponsored by the School, to its history. One of the new features of the site is an events calendar. Each department’s events are listed on its calendar, and these events roll up to a composite list on the School’s calendar, where you can find all the events on offer.
We hope you find the website useful and attractive, and we would love to have your comments and suggestions, as websites are always works in progress.

We are all very excited about the possibilities of the new websites for the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music and are continuing to look for new ways to improve the site and make it more accessible and useful to everyone in the school and beyond.

Wonderful job! Congratulations to the wonderful web page team–Glen, Alix, Donna, and Barbara. The site is really exciting and marks a whole new era in interactive communication for our departments.

I have to say that the new site is miles ahead of the old one, and it is nice to see the three departments coming together.

I know its a complex process to put such a comprehensive site together. Makes me so jealous of current music students when I think how we had to keep up with things when I was a music student.
Congrat to everyone and even though you may only hear about complaints – its an impressive achievement.
