Chamber Music Masterclass by the BORROMEO STRING QUARTET – Free
Monday, January 14, 2008 – 3:30-5:00PM
UCLA – Schoenberg Building, Room 1343
Repertoire:
Beethoven “Harp” Quartet, Brahms Horn Trio, Shostakovich Piano Trio
The famed BORROMEO STRING QUARTET is in town for three concerts on the Music Guild series (January 14-16, 2008 – see No.30 in the listings below). The Borromeo is also giving an admission-free masterclass at UCLA. More distinguished visitors are coming to UCLA later in the spring, including cellist JEFFREY SOLOW and Concertmaster of the Concertgebouw orchestra LIVIU PRUNARU.
UCLA’s Music Department has recently expanded its string faculty with world-renowned artists. UCLA’s Chair of String Studies ANTONIO LYSY, an internationally renowned cellist himself, writes: “The recent addition of string professors to the Department, including first violinist of the Ysaÿe Quartet GUILLAUME SUTRE, virtuoso violinist, chamber musician, and respected pedagogue MOVSES POGOSSIAN, and virtuoso violist RICHARD O’NEILL, promises to develop our string department into one of the most sophisticated on the West Coast – one which is already attracting students of the highest musical standards.”
