Kevork Andonian, composer

Kevork Andonian is a composer, pianist, arranger, and
educator, originally from Ottawa, Canada who is
currently pursuing his Ph.D. in composition at UCLA,
where he is also a Teaching Associate. Kevork
developed a great passion for music creation at an
early age. At six he started composing music on score.
Kevork holds a Bachelor of Music Degree from Carleton
University, graduating with Highest Honours in 2001.
The recipient of many scholarships and awards, Kevork
was also awarded the Carleton University Medal in
Music upon his graduation. In 2007 Kevork graduated
with a Master of Music in Theory and Composition from
the University of Ottawa where he also taught as a
Part-Time Professor.

Kevork has composed for the concert hall, theatre, and
film. He writes in a neo-tonal style which stresses
the importance of melody and rich harmonies. His
compositions portray a variety of emotions, rhythms
and instrumental colours. He draws his inspiration
from classical music, as well as world music, jazz and
pop.

His compositions have been performed in Canada, the
United States, France, Germany, the Czech Republic,
and Armenia.

impressions. “Rhapsody” is a piece for string
orchestra performed at the Glenn Gould Studio in
Toronto in 2002. “Tango”, for violin and piano, was
premiered at the Ottawa International Chamber Music
Festival in 2004.
