PERFORMANCE AUDITION INFORMATION

Audition Repertoire Requirements

Unless the program is specified, you should prepare a full recital, demonstrating your familiarity with a variety of musical styles and periods, including the 20th Century. You should prepare complete works, unless otherwise noted. Sight reading on the level of standard orchestral excerpts or recital repertoire for your instrument may be required.

Prescreening CD: Piano & Voice only

A pre-screening CD is required of all applicants, MM and DMA, whose major instrument is Piano or Voice. The recording must not be edited or enhanced in any way. Send your CD along with other supplemental materials by December 1st. This recording should include the full audition program (piano ONLY) that is listed on the audition requirements and be clearly labeled with your name, degree program and instrument. Please note: This is in addition to any recording you may have already sent to a faculty member.

If you are being invited to audition in person, you will be given an audition time by email. If you are not being invited, you will also receive notification by email.

Audition Information

Dates: Live auditions are held at the UCLA campus and are scheduled for January 30th, February 6th and February 13, 2010. Specific dates for each instrument will be determined at the end of Fall quarter.

Scheduling: You will be scheduled for an audition once you submit your UCLA Application for General Admission, pay your application fee, and submit all supplemental materials.

  • This audition is required and is in addition to any lessons or other meetings you may have had with one of the faculty.

Notification by email: Once the department receives your application and supplemental materials an audition appointment day and time will be emailed to you. We are unable to fulfill requests for specific days or times. Please check that our email is not filtered as spam.

Voice and Piano applicants will be notified by email if they are selected for a live audition.

Day of Audition: On the audition day, you should arrive 1 hour ahead of your appointment. Warm-up space and accompanists are available. Bring with you a typed copy of the full audition program you have prepared, following the Audition Requirements sheet for your instrument.

Location: Auditions are held in Schoenberg Music Building. Campus maps can be found at the UCLA website, www.ucla.edu, by clicking on “Campus Map”. You may park in structure #2, located near the Westholme/Hilgard entrance to the campus for an $10.00 fee.
