CONDUCTING AUDITION INFORMATION

  • Prescreening DVD/Video Required

We accept applications in orchestral, choral and wind conducting. You must submit a pre-screening videotape by December 1st. All materials should be sent to: Graduate Admissions- Conducting, Department of Music, 2539 Schoenberg Music Building, UCLA Box 951616, Los Angeles, CA 90095-1616

Process: Conducting applicants are required to submit a rehearsal videotape or DVD of at least 15 minutes for preliminary screening by December 1st. The video or DVD will be reviewed by the conducting faculty and the most promising candidates will be invited to audition in person on the UCLA campus. If you are invited to audition in person, you will be informed of the possible dates and any repertoire requirement at that time.

Format: Tapes or DVDs must be in standard VHS or DVD format. Overseas applicants must make sure that the audition is either recorded in, or converted to, the NTSC format.

Cover sheet : Your video or DVD must be accompanied by a cover sheet that gives the following information:

  • Name as it appears on the application
  • Degree you are applying for and whether you wish to be considered for choral, wind ensemble or orchestral conducting. You may not apply for more than one.
  • Organization being conducted and your connection to that organization.
  • Repertoire you are conducting
  • Comments you wish to make about this video or the recording session.
