Cello, Viola, Violin, Piano and Voice

Pre-Screening Instructions

Applicants for cello, viola, violin, piano and voice are required to submit a pre-screening audition recording, Compact Disc (CD) highly preferred.  Audition recordings should be submitted as soon as possible, after you have received your “Letter of Acknowledgement” from the UC Processing Center.  Recordings must be received no later than Friday, January 4, 2008.  The Questionnaire for Music Majors, Personal Statement, and any letters of support that you wish to include should be returned along with your pre-screening audition tape. A minimum of two recommendation letters is required for all violin, viiola and cello applicants.

Once your audition CD (Compact Disc preferred) is reviewed, you will be notified if you have been selected for an on-campus audition.  Applicants will receive notification of their on-campus audition appointment via e-mail.  On-campus auditions are scheduled for one of the following two dates, January 26th and February 2 nd, as determined by the area head. Please understand these dates have been selected by our faculty and appointment times will be very difficult to change.  If, however, you realize you cannot keep your appointment, please notify us at once.

The repertoire for your pre-screening audition CD and any in-person audition can be the same.  Please see the representative repertoire list on our website for additional information.   Students selected for an on-campus audition that are unable to attend, will have their pre-screening audition CD used for a final decision.

Please be sure your name and instrument is clearly visible on the outside of the CD case, as well as on the CD itself.  You should be sure the recording has satisfactory audio clarity and volume.

If you have questions, please contact our Undergraduate Student Services Office by e-mail at musicaud@arts.ucla.edu or by phone at (310) 825-4768 or (310) 206-5002.  For a quicker response, e-mail is recommended.  Audition recordings will not be returned unless we receive a written request and a pre-addressed, stamped envelope with the appropriate postage.
