AUDITION REQUIREMENT

 

TRUMPET

 

 

Freshman and Sophomore Performance Specialist and all Music Education Specialists

 

TECHNIQUES:

 

·   Scales:  major and minor, 2 octaves

·  Arpeggios:  major and minor, 2 octaves

·  Sight-reading:  common rhythmic patterns and triplet rhythms (double

      and triple tounging)

·  Etudes:  Arbans Complete Method

                   World’s Method

                   St. Jacome’s Method

                   The equivalent

           

 

For Junior and Senior Performance Specialists

 

TECHNIQUES:

 

·  Scales: major and minor with good tone production with staccato

    tounging and slurs from written not F# below middle C to D above the

    staff.

·   Arpeggios:  major, minor, augmented, diminished, and sevenths

·  Sight-reading:  complicated rhythms (knowledge of use of subdivision of

    beats) 

·   Etudes:  Schlossberg:  Daily Drills and Technical Studies

                    Theo. Charlier:  36 Etudes Transcendates

                    The equivalent

 

REPRESENTATIVE REPERTOIRE:

           

            Current university level band and orchestra literature

 

 

Repertoire: MM and DMA:

Your program must include one from the following: Haydn: Trumpet Concerto in E; Hindemith: Sonata for Trumpet; Hummel: Concerto in E, or Halsey Stevens: Sonata for Trumpet.
