AUDITION REQUIREMENT 

 

VIOLA

 

Applicants who are unable to come for a live audition have the option to submit a videotape.

 

Undergraduate Applicants:

 

I.    Requirements for students specializing in Performance

All selections are to be played from memory

 

 A movement from an advanced Sonata.

 One movement from a Bach cello Suite

 One movement of a standard Concerto

 

 

II.    Requirements for students specializing in Music Education

Applicants may choose to play with or without music.

 

A Short Piece or Sonata movement or a movement of a Concerto

One movement from a Bach Cello Suite

 

 

 

 

 

Graduate Applicants

  

NOTE: All works, except for Sonatas with Piano must be presented from memory.

 

Repertoire: MM:

a)   one movement of a standard concerto for viola

b)   two contrasting movements of any cello Suite by Bach

c)    two contrasting movements from a Sonata for viola and piano or two contrasting short works from the standard repertoire.

 

Repertoire: DMA: A 50 - 60 minute recital, demonstrating your familiarity with a variety of musical styles and periods, including a work written after 1950. A complete concerto should be included.
