PERCUSSION AUDITION REQUIREMENTS

BASIC REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL CANDIDATES
All applicants must audition on snare drum, timpani, and marimba.
I. Snare Drum -
Required
A. Demonstrate the
following (start slow-accelerate-slow down)
1.
Single stroke roll
2. Double stroke roll
3.
Flam accent
4.
Drag Paradiddle #2
5.
5 stroke roll
B. Play a closed roll (start pp < ff
> pp)
* C. Required Etude:
Peters Intermediate Snare Drum Studies ( #
32 - page 44)
D. Perform a solo
or etude (concert style) of your own selection, that best demonstrates your
level of proficiency.
E. Sight Reading
A. All major scales and arpeggios (2
octaves)

1. McMillan Percussion Keyboard Technic,
(page 50)
C. Perform a solo or etude of your own selection, for two mallets
or for four mallets, that best demonstrates your level of proficiency.
D. Sight Reading
III. Timpani -
Required
A. Tune timpani to pitches requested.
B. Demonstrate a roll on C (start pp -
ff - pp)
