CONTEMPO FLUX--Professor Gloria Cheng, Director

This course is the outgrowth of a student-initiated effort in the Spring of 2008 to create opportunities for the study and performance of contemporary music. That ensemble was named Contempo Flux.

There will be one concert each quarter, featuring solo and chamber music (possibly conducted). Class meetings with Gloria Cheng as faculty advisor/coach will take place on Fridays from 3-6PM. Repertoire will be chosen jointly by students and Dr. Cheng, and will not replicate works being programmed on individual recitals. The focus will be global, with attention paid not only to contemporary Western repertoire but to music stemming from or incorporating Central/South American, Asian, African, and other art and traditional musics.

Prerequisite: Open to undergraduate and graduate students. Consent of instructor required.
A short audition will be held on the first class meeting (see below).
